Precision Grinding & Finishing business (PG&F)

Winterthur Technology Group will be present at GrindingHub 2026

Following its separation from 3M, the Precision Grinding & Finishing business (PG&F), now operating as Winterthur Technology Group, will showcase new technologies for industrial grinding processes at GrindingHub, May 5–8, 2026, in Stuttgart, Germany. This marks the first trade fair appearance under the Winterthur Technology Group name.

The focus will be on new specifications for conventional grinding wheels as well as innovative solutions in the field of superabrasives. During a transition period, the business will continue to utilize the 3M brand while introducing the Winterthur Technology Group as its future identity.

GrindingHub is considered one of the most important trade fairs for grinding technology and provides a platform for the exchange of new technologies and process solutions. At the show PG&F will present the latest developments designed to make industrial grinding applications more efficient, stable and cost-effective.

New advances in conventional grinding processes

With its established 3M™ Cubitron™ technology, PG&F will showcase solutions featuring precisely shaped abrasive grains that enable consistent material removal while improving process stability and tool life. At the same time the increasing requirements for surface finish in electromobility applications can be reliably met with specifications from the Nano series.

These were developed specifically for modern transmission components and e-drive applications and deliver improved surface quality while reducing grinding pressure.

In addition the company will introduce new developments in conventional grinding wheels. For standard applications in cylindrical and surface grinding with clearly defined general requirements, PG&F is launching a range of stocked products. The focus is on fast availability for everyday use, consistent quality and a competitive price-performance ratio.

Advances in superabrasives and additive Manufacturing

Another highlight is the progress made in the 3D-based manufacturing of grinding tools. Following successful implementation in internal cylindrical grinding and capacity expansion in 2025, PG&F is now focusing on applications such as double-disc face grinding and external cylindrical grinding.

Through digitally controlled, layer-by-layer construction, these additively manufactured tools enable optimized grain and pore distribution, including new design features such as integrated cooling channels and customizable slots. This scalable technology platform supports tailored solutions for various grinding processes, improving efficiency, extending tool life and opening up new possibilities for cylindrical and surface grinding.

Customer experiences in double-disc face grinding, for example, show that precision-structured CBN grinding wheels can significantly reduce grinding pressure while achieving longer tool life.

Platform for exchange and innovation

“GrindingHub is an important platform for us to discuss new developments in grinding technology”, says Sargon Korykos, sales manager DACH at Winterthur Technology Group (formerly part of 3M). “With our latest solutions – from Cubitron™ abrasives to additively manufactured precision grinding tools – we want to demonstrate how grinding processes can be further optimized in a targeted way”, Korykos continues.
