Dr Wilfried Schäfer, Managing Director of the METAV organiser VDW (Verein Deutscher Werkzeugmaschinenfabriken), says: “We didn’t make the decision easy, but the coronavirus or Covid-19 has spread extremely dynamically in recent days. With the high number of infected people in Italy and the spread in North Rhine-Westphalia right on METAV’s doorstep, the uncertainty among our exhibitors has increased considerably”.
After Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn also spoke of the beginning of an epidemic in Germany and travellers from crisis regions are now being checked on entry, several major exhibitors have cancelled their METAV participation. “Since further developments are not foreseeable, we have decided at short notice to postpone METAV to March 23 – 26, 2021. In consultation with our partner, Messe Düsseldorf, we announce the new date, so that exhibitors and visitors can plan ahead with certainty”, says Schäfer.
